It should be noted that while our products are of exceptional quality and have benefited from the input of conservation professionals this does not mean that they are necessarily appropriate for those items considered to be rare artifacts. These type materials are best left to the care of skilled professional conservators. For general collection maintenance filmoplast tapes and filmolux laminates provide a fast, safe and easy way to achieve professional looking and lasting results.
Used extensively in libraries and archives for mending tears in paper this tape employs a carrier made from special wood-free paper. Once burnished it virtually disappears leaving a mend that both looks and feels like the original page. Both the adhesive and paper have been buffered with CaCO3 making the tape slightly alkaline (pH ~9.2) to counter any acids in the paper it is applied to. Neschen recommends that the tape be burnished upon application with a bone folder to achieve the optimum in transparency.
filmoplast® P 90
Made from a white, tear resistant paper and Neschen’s own unique age resistant acrylic adhesive filmoplast P 90 is used widely for reinforcing folds on maps and music scores, reattaching paperback book covers and mending damaged paper edges. Both the adhesive and paper carrier are buffered (pH 8.7 aged) to prevent an influx of acids. Tape should be burnished upon application with a clean bone folder to achieve the optimum bonding strength.
A high alpha-cellulose tissue coated with an acid and solvent-free heat activated adhesive. Used to line brittle papers to prevent further disintegration, spot mending of tears and filling in voids. Both the adhesive and paper are buffered to counter acids. The adhesive activates at a temperature of 110º Celsius and can be applied with a tacking iron or in a heat-press.

Similar in appearance to a large roll of double-sided tape gudy 831 can be used to make any smooth surface self-adhesive. With no heat or machines required photos, paper cutouts, inkjet prints, etc can all be made into self-adhesive “stickers”. The adhesive used is acid-free and will not dry out or become brittle with age. Perfect for making displays or mounting dust jacket illustrations to hard cover books prior to laminating.
Often called a “free” or “transfer” adhesive gudy 870 is like a double sided tape but does not have a center carrier. Instead it is a very thin layer of adhesive coated onto a siliconised release paper. When the graphic is touched to the adhesive it “transfers” to it making it self-adhesive. Because gudy 870 does not have a center carrier it is uniquely well suited for irregular shapes like those found in memory albums. gudy 870 is acid-free and will not discolor or become brittle with age.
